Jayshree Periwal International School, formerly known as Step by Step International School, is the flagship institution of the Jayshree Periwal Group of Schools, one of Jaipur's most established educational networks. Founded in 2011 under the chairpersonship of Dr. Jayshree Periwal, the school educates students from Nursery through Grade 12 entirely on internationally recognised curricula: the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge IGCSE. What sets JPIS apart is the completeness of its international offering. The school runs the full IB continuum, taking a child from the Primary Years Programme through the Middle Years Programme, into Cambridge IGCSE, and finally the IB Diploma Programme. Very few schools in Rajasthan offer this entire pathway under one roof, which means a child can begin at three years old and complete an internationally recognised diploma without ever changing systems. The school's philosophy, in the Chairperson's own words, is that a school should be the foundation stone for life rather than a stepping stone to college. The campus is deliberately designed as a complete learning centre so that children can explore academics, sport, music, theatre, and art in one place instead of travelling between activity classes. Rather than simply being taught, students are trained to teach themselves, with an emphasis on inquiry, critical thinking, and independent reasoning that carries through every programme. JPIS is also a genuinely international community. Boarding students come from over 40 countries, and the school draws learners from State board, CBSE, ICSE, and Cambridge backgrounds, creating a mix of cultures and academic traditions that shapes daily life on campus. The school is notably committed to sustainability. It runs entirely on solar power, harvests rainwater, grows a portion of the food it consumes, produces its own manure, and is home to around 140 species of plants, birds, and animals, including a purpose built lake ecosystem.
The mission of JPIS is to ensure that holistic learning is genuinely imparted, not merely promised. The school works towards students who leave not only academically accomplished but personally whole, prepared to continue learning long after their final examination. Central to this is the belief that character is the true measure of an education. Students are expected to graduate as peace-loving, lifelong self-learners who hold honesty, integrity, loyalty, compassion, and prudence as working principles rather than abstract ideals. Academics & Results
IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for Pre-Primary to Grade 5. An inquiry led framework for ages 3 to 12 built on five essential elements of knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action, organised around six transdisciplinary themes that encourage children to investigate the world through big questions rather than isolated subjects. IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Grades 6 to 8, bridging the primary years and the senior international qualifications. JPIS is an authorised IB MYP school and the only school in Rajasthan to offer the programme. Students study eight subject groups: Language and Literature, Mathematics, Science, Individuals and Societies, Language Acquisition (Hindi, French, or Spanish), Design, Arts, and Physical and Health Education. Learning is concept-driven and connected across subjects, with students completing a self-directed Community Project in Grade 8. The programme builds on the PYP and prepares students for IGCSE and the IB Diploma. Cambridge IGCSE for Grades 9 and 10. Students typically take seven subjects, with a maximum of eight, chosen across five groups covering languages, humanities, sciences, mathematics, and creative or technical subjects. Most students work towards the International Certificate of Education, which requires passes in at least seven IGCSE subjects and is awarded at Distinction, Merit, or Pass level. Subject selection happens in consultation with parents at the end of Grade 8, and final assessment is marked by Cambridge examiners. IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) for Grades 11 and 12. Students take six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, drawn from six groups, alongside the compulsory core of Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and Creativity, Activity, Service. Subject options include Business Management, Economics, Psychology, Global Politics, Computer Science, Design Technology, Visual Arts, and Dance, with languages including English, Hindi, French, and Spanish. Beyond the Classroom Sports. Every student takes part in one compulsory hour of sport each morning. Facilities and coaching cover athletics, basketball, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, swimming, taekwondo, yoga, horse riding, and a gymnasium. The school offers sports scholarships. Music. Over 30 instruments are taught across Western and Indian classical traditions, from piano, drums, guitar, violin, and saxophone to tabla, sitar, harmonium, and bansuri. The music wing includes rehearsal studios, acoustic practice rooms, a digital music lab, and a recording and mixing studio. The school rock band and orchestra perform regularly. Performing Arts. Dance is taught across Bharatanatyam, Kathak, ballet, jazz, hip hop, and contemporary, and is also offered as a full IB Diploma subject. Drama includes large scale annual productions in Hindi and English, supported by a collaboration with the International Drama Academy. Visual Arts. Studios cover painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, digital media, graphic design, and installation art, taught through to IGCSE Art and Design and IBDP Visual Arts. The annual Art with Heart exhibition showcases student work to the wider community. Model United Nations. The JPIS MUN Club has fifteen years of history and multiple Best Delegation titles nationally. Students have been selected to chair and lead committees at Yale MUN, Harvard MUN, Oxford MUN, and WIMUN Singapore. The school's own annual intra-school MUN hosts over 250 participants. TEDx. The school runs its own TEDx programme, alongside inter-school debates, elocution, and creative writing in both English and Hindi.
Admissions
Admissions run on a rolling basis and depend on seat availability, so early application is encouraged. The main entry points are KG, Grade 1, Grade 6, Grade 9, and Grade 11, though admission to other grades is granted subject to availability. Families applying for Grades 6 to 11 should have the previous two years' report cards ready, and the student should attend the scheduled appointment for the entrance assessment. On being offered a place, parents must pay the admission fee and security deposit to confirm it. Separate application routes exist for day scholars and boarding students.
